Street cars and red octagons; a 2012 New Orleans BCS adventure
Alabama’s 13’s 2012 BCS adventure has begun. Actually, day one is coming to a close and that’s probably for the best.
On the trip this year to the “Big Easy” is your friendly neighborhood web guy (that’s me-Scott), Sports Director, Don Hawes, and Sports Photographer, Todd Eagle.
Over the next week we’ll do our best to bring you well rounded coverage of Alabama’s pursuit of another National Championship. Along the way, you can expect plenty of complete reports and wrap ups from Don and our sister station WKRG in Mobile. We’ll throw in plenty of photo galleries of the action and festivities around town and a few blogs as well.
However, all of this is provided we don’t get run over by street cars or vehicles ignoring those pesky eight-sided red signs that say “STOP” in reflective white.
Today was a simple day, travel and get acquainted with the area. Longer, harder, and more fun days lie ahead. Again, this is assuming all three of us continue along the journey.
What I do know is that Todd is not allowed near street cars and neither of us can cross the street without looking 247 times.
It was just an easy stroll to the Superdome after dinner to score a souvenir. Unfortunately, we were too late to snag any Michigan hats. So we walked back. A little New Orleans exercise never hurt anyone.
Visitors beware, street cars that are stopped will start again even as you proceed across the crosswalk and the operator stares directly at you. It was shocking to say the least, but I had a grasp on Mr. Eagle. By the way, he returned the favor a few intersections later at one of those four-way stops that apparently only works two ways.
In the end, I can report we are ready for Alabama’s arrival Wednesday afternoon. Everyone is accounted for.
Goodnight.
