Projected Bowl Matchups: Alabama vs. Notre Dame

11/19 at 10:10 AM

BCS breakdown:

BCS Top 5:
1. Notre Dame
2. Alabama
3. Georgia
4. Florida
5. Oregon

All Notre Dame has to do is beat USC and they will play for the BCS National Championship.

Both Alabama and Georgia control their destiny. If Alabama beats Auburn they are in the SEC Championship facing Georgia. A victory over the Bulldogs in the SEC Championship would put the Tide in the BCS National Championship. Georgia is already in the SEC Championship, but the Bulldogs have to take care of business in their rivalry with Georgia Tech to stay in the national picture. If Georgia beats Tech and wins the SEC title game they will go on to the BCS National Championship.

What if more chaos happens next week and Notre Dame is upset at USC? That would move the winner of the Alabama and Georgia game to number one, but who will be ranked second? Florida is sitting at number 4 in the BCS just ahead of Oregon, but will the Gators stay ahead of Oregon in the final poll? The Gators have beaten some very good SEC teams and assume they close out the season with a win at #10 Florida State would make the Gators untouchable in the computers. Oregon won’t get a lot of love from the computers, but the Ducks should move ahead of Florida in the human polls assuming they beat Oregon State. Will the human polls be enough to override Florida’s strong edge in the computers? It’s going to be close, and at this point I’m not sure anyone can predict how that would all shake out if Notre Dame was to lose. I do know the voters will try to avoid another SEC vs. SEC title game.
