BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The No. 19/17 University of Alabama men’s basketball team had three student-athletes honored as preseason All-Southeastern Conference by the league’s coaches, the conference announced Wednesday.

Senior JaMychal Green was selected to the eight-member first team while junior Tony Mitchell and sophomore Trevor Releford were voted onto the nine-member second team.

Green earned All-SEC honors as a junior by averaging 15.5 points and 7.5 rebounds per game and enters this season as the SEC’s active leader in career double-doubles. Mitchell also earned All-SEC honors last season while scoring 15.2 points per game and Releford was named to the 2011 SEC All-Freshman team and eventually earned All-NIT accolades.

Thirty-two different players received votes for the teams and Alabama, Florida, Kentucky and Vanderbilt led all schools with three selections each while Mississippi State had two selections .

The coaches preseason All-SEC first and second teams consist of a minimum of eight players on each squad, voted on by the SEC Head Men’s Basketball Coaches. No ties were broken and no predicted order of finish was made.

The trio, along with their teammates open up the 2011-12 season on Friday evening when they host North Florida. Tipoff at Coleman Coliseum is scheduled for 7 p.m.
