TUSCALOOSA, Ala. - University of Alabama golfer Bud Cauley has received an invitation to play in the Nationwide Tour’s Children’s Hospital Invitational as an amateur this week at the Ohio State University Scarlet Course in Columbus, Ohio. Play begins Thursday, July 22 and concludes Sunday, July 25.
Cauley, along with 11 other individuals, received exemption into the tournament based on their All-America status earned as collegiate golfers. The Jacksonville, Fla., native enters the tournament following a fifth place finish in last week’s Southern Amateur Championship at Shoal Creek in Birmingham.
In its fourth year as the only invitational on the Nationwide Tour, the Children’s Hospital Invitational has already produced one winner from the college ranks, Daniel Summerhays of BYU in 2007, as well as a playoff runner-up, Rickie Fowler of Oklahoma State in 2009.
Joining Cauley in the field as the other All-American invitees is Scott Langley (Illinois), Dustin Garza (Wichita State), Russell Henley (Georgia), John Chin (UC-Irvine), Andrea Pavan (Texas A&M), Jonathan Randolph (Mississippi), Morgan Hoffman and Peter Uhlein (Oklahoma State), Diego Velasquez (Oregon State) and Patrick Reed (Augusta State).
As a sophomore in 2009-10, Cauley collected two wins, three top-fives and another three top-10 finishes in eight tournaments. He was a first-team All-Southeastern Conference selection for the second consecutive year and also was chosen as one of three finalist for the Ben Hogan Award, given annually to the nation’s top collegiate golfer.
Scores for the Children’s Hospital Invitational can be followed live at pgatour.com. Fans can watch the action on Golf Channel Thursday and Friday (11:30 - 1:30 p.m. CDT), Saturday (5:30-8:30 p.m. CDT) and Sunday (6-8:30 p.m. CDT).
