Blog: Alabama outlast Georgia 32-28
What we know:
•It was advertised as a 15 round fight and there was little doubt when the clock hit zero that we just witnessed an epic 15 round battle. It was one of the most physical games I’ve ever seen as both teams left everything on the field. Punch for punch round for round as the momentum swung back and forth everyone was left on the edge of their seat waiting to see who could deliver the knockout blow. Alabama was giving body shot after body shot pounding Georgia with the running attack and with three minutes to go Alabama finally pulled the trigger and delivered the almost knockout blow on a deep pass to Amari Cooper. After that pass it looked like Georgia was down for the count, but the Bulldogs found away to deliver one last series of punches, but the bell rung and Alabama was declared the winner.
•For the 23rd time Alabama is SEC Champions.
•Up next: The BCS National Championship versus Notre Dame
Report Card:
Offense: A
Alabama’s running attack was almost unstoppable.
Defense: B
Playing through injuries the Tide defense played soiled, but not dominant.
Special Teams: C
Delay of game on fake punt, allowing Georgia to convert a fake punt, and having a field goal blocked and returned for a touchdown lowers the Tides grade to a “C” at best.
The Numbers:
Passing:
A.J. MaCarron completed 13 of his 21 passes for 162 yards with 1 touchdown and 1 interception.
Georgia’s Aaron Murray completed 18 of his 33 passes for 261 yards with 1 touchdown and 1 interception.
Rushing:
Eddie Lacy rushed for 181 yards on 20 carries for 2 touchdowns.
TJ Yeldon rushed for 153 yards on 25 carries for 1 touchdown.
Receiving:
Amari Cooper reeled in 7 receptions for 127 yards and 1 touchdown.
