Alabama Gymnastics ranked third in the nation
TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – The Alabama gymnastics team is tied for third nationally this week as they prepare to travel to Baton Rouge, La. to face the No. 13 LSU Tigers this Friday at 7:00 p.m.
The Crimson Tide is led by senior Ashley Priess, who remains in the nation’s No. 1 spot in the all-around for the third week in a row, and its vault squad, which returned to No. 1 after spending a one-week dip at No. 2.
There was plenty of movement within the top-seven spots in the rankings this week. Florida moved into No. 1 this week, while Oklahoma moved up one spot to No. 2. Georgia shares the No. 3 ranking with Alabama this week. Utah fell four spots to No. 5 and UCLA rose a spot to No. 6 while Arkansas fell two spots to No. 7. No. 8 Oregon State, No. 9 Nebraska and No. 10 Penn State remained the same as last week, rounding out the top 10.
The Tide returned to No. 1 on the vault this week and jumped to No. 2 on the floor exercise, after posting a season-best 49.600 against Arkansas. Alabama is ranked sixth on the balance beam and 10th on the uneven bars.
In the all-around, Priess remains No. 1 while senior Geralen Stack-Eaton checks in at No. 4 this week. Priess is also sixth on the uneven bars, 16th on the balance beam and 21st on the vault. Stack-Eaton is fourth on the floor exercise and sixth on the vault.
Junior Ashley Sledge is eighth on the vault and 20th on the floor while sophomore Kim Jacob is tied with Priess for 16th on the balance beam. On the vault, sophomore Diandra Milliner and junior Marissa Gutierrez are tied at No. 14.
