Birmingham, Ala. -
University of Alabama senior Mikhail Torrance and freshman Tony Mitchell garnered postseason all-Southeastern Conference honors as voted on by the league’s men’s basketball coaches, the conference office announced Tuesday.
Torrance was named to the all-SEC second team while Mitchell earned all-freshman honors. It is the second consecutive season Alabama has had both an all-SEC and all-freshman selection.
Torrance, a 6-5 senior guard from Eight Mile, Ala., earns his first all-SEC accolade after leading the Crimson Tide in scoring with 15.4 points per game in his senior season. He is also third in the league in assists with 5.3 per game and has converted on 47.7 percent of his field-goal attempts and an SEC-best 86.9 percent of his free-throw attempts.
Mitchell, the reigning SEC Freshman of the Week, is joined by eight other freshmen on the all-freshman team. The 6-6 forward from Swainsboro, Ga., averaged 9.2 points and 5.6 rebounds for the Tide. Among all league freshmen he ranked seventh in scoring and third in rebounding.
